Health & Safety Manager

My client is looking or an experienced Health & Safety Manager with Construction experience to join their team.

Job Summary:

To co-ordinate, support and advise the company on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, training and systems to ensure the company adheres to and meets its legal duties.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the H&S Policy in accordance with information supplied by company and changes to UK Law
  • Advise staff in the company on matters of health, safety and welfare
  • Undertake investigations of accidents and advise the company on the need to report under RIDDOR
  • Maintain companies accident statistics
  • Carry out a fire risk assessment for the offices and maintain it as necessary
  • Advise on the selection of new plant or equipment
  • Advise on the selection of personal protective equipment
  • Carry out regular site audits
  • Set a good example when visiting sites by wearing appropriate protective clothing and actively promoting health and safety
  • Advise on an appropriate level of first aid provision throughout the company
  • Undertake COSHH surveys and assessments
  • Undertake vetting for sub-contractors and maintain the company's list of approved contractors
  • Enhancing the health and safety culture of the company by working closely with supervisors and engineers to understand their health and safety needs relevant to their disciplines
  • Assist Managers with the drawing up of Risk Assessments and safe working practices
  • Liaising with clients to ensure that suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements are in place in advance of works taking place. This also involves pre-works visits to the sites of work to ensure risk assessments are site specific
  • Advise on training needs and maintain the company's training matrix
  • Undertake suitable induction and other training for staff
  • Develop and deliver Tool Box Talks as required
  • Investigate accidents/incidents where specialist expertise is required
  • Inspect access equipment periodically and set up and maintain equipment logs
  • Inspect vans and their contents on a 6 monthly basis
  • Produce written reports following the site audits and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensuring that the company meets the requirements of, and achieves, renewal of its accreditation under the Safe Contractor, Construction Line and CHAS scheme
  • Providing evidence of health and safety procedures and compliance as a part of tender submission
  • Ensure that the company meets the requirements of accreditation with ISO 14001 & 9001 for Environmental & Management Systems

Skills & Requirements:

  • Technical member of IOSH
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • NEOSH Construction Certificate
  • CIEH Professional Trainer Certificate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability, and experience of, communicating clearly with persons of differing backgrounds and nationalities.
  • Very experienced in Health and Safety in complex working environments
