We are working in partnership with the Sidra Medical and Research Center. Our client is an ultramodern, all-digital academic medical centre specialising in the provision of care for women and children. Based in Qatar, our client will focus on world-class patient care, medical education and biomedical research.

We are recruiting for a Lead Perfusionist

Job Summary:

The Lead Perfusionist works in a supervisory capacity in serving as a technical resource/lead worker to other Clinical Perfusionist in the performance, development, and modification of perfusion techniques. The Lead Perfusionist also serves as administrative manager overseeing the daily activities of the perfusion program. Work requires the Lead Perfusionist to be responsible for ensuring adequate staffing; determining workflow; and providing liaison between surgeons, the Division Clinical Staff, and sales representatives. The Lead Perfusionist participates in personnel related functions including the approval of administrative leave, training and orientation, performance appraisal, and selection of new employees. The Lead Perfusionist also evaluates new equipment or products, and spends a significant amount of time performing work characteristic of the Clinical Perfusionist. The Lead Perfusionist exercises independent judgment in planning and scheduling the work, and evaluating new equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Division Chief Cardiovascular Surgery.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Selects the necessary supplies for different types of neonate/pediatric procedures, assembles and prepares all perfusion equipment including cardiopulmonary bypass system, intra-aortic balloon pumps, cell saver, ECMO.
  • Manages the equipment, cleaning and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and maintains appropriate supplies.
  • Prepares the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPD) machine, documents the CPB in an appropriate and timely manner and communicates with the surgeon regarding any changes required in the CPD circuit whenever needed.
  • Manages critical situations in an appropriate manner including initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass and/or ECMO with proper communication with the attending surgeon.
  • Participates as a team member and offers assistance to solve problems and complete tasks. Facilitates communication and teamwork.
  • Monitors the patients in the theatre including blood gas analysis.
  • Oversees the impementation of new techniques and equipment to improve the delivery of patient care.
  • Monitors and evaluates staff competencies, regulatory requirements, and credentialing.
  • Oversees learning experiences of new and senior staff.
  • Establishes staffing and coverage policies for perfusion services as required.
  • Establishes policies and procedures and maintains compliance with perfusion service standards.
  • Develops strong working relationships with the existing Hamad Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program Team.
  • Develops a collaborative transitional plan for Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery as it transfers to Sidra from Hamad.
  • Develops and implements a strategy for the service that embraces and supports the collaborative Sidra/Hamad country wide resource initiative.
  • Provide 24/7 coverage for the service participate in shift rotation and the on call system.
  • Oversees budget and charges submissions for perfusion services.
  • Collaborates and assists with materials management on contract for all perfusion equipment and disposables.
  • Adheres to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.


Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in science (biological or clinical)
  • PG Dip or MSc in perfusion science Completion of an accredited perfusion training program
  • 5 + years as Neonatal/Pediatric clinical perfusionist, including 2+ years at managerial level
  • Certified and registered by a board of cardiovascular perfusion in North America, UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent sommunication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, manage and document the use of equipment including CDP machines
  • Demonastrated ablity to manage critical situations in surgery
  • Skilled in policy development and revision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
