We are working in partnership with the Sidra Medical and Research Center. Our client is an ultramodern, all-digital academic medical centre specialising in the provision of care for women and children. Based in Qatar, our client will focus on world-class patient care, medical education and biomedical research.

We are recruiting for a Supervisor - Child Life Services.

Job Summary:

The Supervisor - Child Life Services is responsible for leading and demonstrating the provision of safe, patient and family focused quality care. The Supervisor - Child Life Services is a key member of the inter professional team and ensures that standards for child life care are adhered to at service level. The Supervisor - Child Life Services works collaboratively with the Child Life Manager to ensure that commissioning, recruitment, onboarding, orientation and service activation responsibilities are carried out in accordance with Sidra's plans and timelines.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a professional and role model for staff and is an advocate for patients and their families
  • Participates in planning and program direction
  • Provides supervision and guidance to staff
  • Evaluates and ensures that individualized discharge planning needs are assessed on admission
  • Ensures an inter-professional approach to facilitate a timely discharge or transfer to the next level of care or home
  • Ensures safe patient care by making patient assignments based on patient acuity and skill mix
  • Evaluates and ensures that clinical documentation, diagnoses and plans of care are integrated and effective in delivering an individual plan of care
  • Demonstrates an understanding of evidence-based healthcare methodology and its ability to positively impact patient outcomes
  • Identifies patient care issues and/ or strategies to improve and positively impact on the quality of care and patient outcomes
  • Collaborates with the Child Life Services Manager and Clinical Educators in planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/ family and staff education
  • Evaluates and ensures appropriate escalation of issues to meet patient/ family/ staff needs and resolve conflicts
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, families and colleagues, addresses patient/ family complaints immediately and assists in the investigation of written complaints
  • Ensures the effective orientation, precepting and support of new staff and students

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Hospital Play or related area
  • 5+ years of experience inclusive of 2 years progressive management experience of Child Life/ Hospital Play work experience
  • Strong clinical expertise across the competencies of the Child Life profession
  • Experience in Child Life department leadership/ supervisory roles/ responsibilities
  • Child Life Specialist Certification via the Child Life Council, Inc. or Registration as Hospital Play Specialist via home country's registration system
  • Member of the Child Life Council, Inc., National Association for Health Play Specialist (UK), and/ or Hospital Play Specialist Association (NZ)
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff and through positive leadership skills and provide consistent and supportive feedback for personal and program improvement
  • Ability to make leadership decisions
  • Ability to provide assessments regarding developmental reactions to hospitalization and risk for stress potential
  • Ability to design and implement interventions to meet individual patient and family needs and enhance overall coping
  • Ability to function as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary team and communicate and advocate for patient/ family needs within this team
  • Demonstrates knowledge of best practices in Child Life specialty
  • Experience in organizing data and generating thorough, accurate, timely reports
  • Experience with Clinical Information systems
