Responsible in taking care of the different surgical instruments that are being used by the surgeons and physicians in the operating theatre and unit wards thus make them sterilized so as to give highly quality patient care.

We are recruiting for a Technician - CSSD.

Job Summary:

The Technician - CSSD will be responsible for taking care of the different surgical instruments that are being used by the surgeons and physicians in the operating theatre and unit wards thus make them sterilized so as to give highly quality patient care.

Roles and Responsibiliites:

1. Sterilization Process

  • To sterilize equipments in accordance with the departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Pick up/receive, decontaminate, disassemble, reassemble and reprocess surgical instruments and distribute to the applicable patient care unit in accordance with the departmental and international standards.
  • Deliver and store all processed sterile instruments to the end users.
  • Ensure CSSD work areas are kept clean and tidy at all times and that all equipments are appropriately maintained according to manufacturer recommendation and departmental policies and procedures.

2. Quality Development

  • Complete assigned tasks as directed by the CSSD Supervisor and Senior CSSD Technician.
  • Assist in the departmental inventory control.
  • To perform quality assurance monitoring and the operation of all decontamination and sterilization equipments.
  • Report any concerns about current or potential problems that have occurred or may compromise patient care to the CSSD Supervisor As Soon As Possible.
  • Collaborate and participates with colleagues to facilitate and coordinate best technical practice.

3. Professional Communication and Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with other health care team members to achieve the best health care outcome for the patient in accordance with the mission, vision and objectives of the facility.

4. Professional Development and Growth

  • Participate and show commitment to educational activities.
  • Maintain CSSD best practice through continued education and training.
  • Maintain annual mandatory and core competencies relevant to the position.
  • Undertake self-development opportunities to promote and maintain knowledge and competence.
  • Participate in the Performance Appraisal process.
  • Assume any other responsibilities as directed by the direct supervisor.

5. Patient Safety

  • Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service and contracted providers.

Essential Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of health & safety experience of which a minimum of 1 year should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and knowledge of different method of decontamination, packaging, sterilization, inventory control and quality assurance monitoring.
  • Demonstrate a positive, constructive attitude.
  • Monitor the CSSD consumables stock and expiry dates.
  • Communicates knowledge formally and informally to meet the needs of health professionals.
  • Carry out additional assigned tasks as directed by the CSSD.

Education and Certification requirements

  • Certification in a relevant Central Sterilization Services field.
  • Licensed as a CRCST as per International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).

Job specific technical skills

  • Basic understanding of occupational health and safety.
  • Names of different surgical instruments and implants.
  • Inspection, decontaminates, disassemble, reassemble, reprocess of different kinds of surgical instruments.
