We are recruiting for a Consultant - Anaesthesiology - Adult/Women

Job Summary:

The Consultant - Anesthesiology Adult/ Women will be responsible for the provision of high quality evidence-based care for adult patients requiring anesthesia and perioperative care. He/she is expected to have a strong base in obstetric anesthesia and analgesia; prior fellowship training and/or a leadership or training role in obstetric anesthesia would be advantage. The candidate will have the ability to work independently and will have the requisite skills and experience for effectively and efficiently diagnosing, managing, treating all patients placed under the post holder's care within the usual scope of anesthetic services. He/she is expected to perform regular daytime duties as well as participating in the after-hours duty roster. The Consultant- Anesthesiology Adult/ Women is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within his or her specialty and to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Key Role Accountabilities:

  • Provides excellent patient clinical care, as informed by current standards of recognized leading western medical organizations.
  • Provides anesthetic care including obstetric anesthesia and analgesia, general anesthesia for non-obstetric adult patients, neuraxial regional anesthesia, peripheral nerve blockade, intravenous and inhalational analgesia, monitored anesthesia care and emergency airway management conforming to the best current practices as defined by major western (EU and/or North American) anesthesiology organizations. Provides pre-anesthetic and post-anesthetic consultative care, follow-up, and appropriate referrals. Performs pre-anesthetic informed consent discussions with patients and families and provides documentation thereof.
  • Covers emergency and on-call duties as determined by the Division Chief, Chair and/or their designee.
  • Participates in clinical care at offsite locations such as the Hamad General Hospital as required
  • Works collaboratively with Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar to provide teaching support for instruction regarding the basic science and clinical curriculum by the members of the division for undergraduate medical students and surgical residents.
  • Works in a in a congenial, supportive, collaborative and equitable environment.
  • Works collaboratively with other physicians, nurses, other health care providers and all other division staff to ensure that cohesive, cross functional teams are maintained.
  • Promotes mentorship and academic career development for junior team members.
  • Participates in clinical research projects
  • Provides accurate and timely quality and safety data on each patient care encounter.
  • Actively participates in graduate medical education and in education for nursing, technical staff, and other physicians as necessary
  • Communicates effectively, consistently, and in a timely manner with colleagues and other staff members

Essential Requirements:

  • MD, MBBS or MBChB or Equivalent; for example FANZCA, FRCA, FFA (CCT)
  • Completion of residency program in the specialty area from an accredited Western Board.
  • Satisfactory completion of an Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) residency program in the United States and certification by one of the medical specialty boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS
  • Satisfactory completion of a residency program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Specialist Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Satisfactory completion of a residency training program accredited by a competent authority of a member state of European Community, or Specialist Certification according to the Council Directive.
  • Other countries, (including Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong) recognized qualifications of a similar status that is acceptable to Sidra.
  • Maintenance of board certification status as required in home country.
  • 5+ years clinical experience post certification and completion of training.
  • Recognized achievements in clinical care.
  • Recognized experience and leadership of Adult anesthesia clinical service leadership
  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
  • Strong Medical Knowledge of established and evolving practice, Diagnostics, Therapeutics and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with varied staff efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
