Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this role will be to ensure that all project and management accounting reporting requirements are met and that all activities within the finance reporting function are sufficiently performed, an area that is at the heart of developing the strategy of the business.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the monthly management accounts to strict deadlines
  • Trial balances in accordance with accounting standards and company policies and procedures
  • Accruals, prepayments, payroll journals etc
  • Produce variance analysis to budget/forecast for review
  • Departmental results and reviews with budget holders
  • Balance sheet reconciliations including associated schedules and registers
  • Monthly reporting as required for the board reports

Project Accounting:

  • Liaise with Project/Department Managers with regards to sub-contractor relationships, including contracts, invoicing, payments
  • Coordinate with Operational teams for the project cash flows on all major projects
  • Weekly project reviews with Operational teams on performance information, forecasting and analysis on all significant projects
  • Prepare and advise monthly revenue recognition schedules
  • Ensuring all project billing is up-to-date and in accordance with contractual requirements including ensuring appropriate paperwork/vesting documents are issued to the client
  • Weekly reporting of progress on the chasing of aged debt overdues and outstanding project receipts

Skills and Experience:

  • ACA/CIMA/ACCA part qualified with relevant work experience
  • Good track record and experience of working and multi-tasking within a small but busy accounts and administration environment
  • Project Accounting experience
  • Strong excel skills including the use of advanced functions and spread sheet modelling
  • Sage 200 system knowledge
  • Previous work within construction/contracting or engineering sectors (Desirable)
  • The candidate must be pro-active, self-motivated and have a high level of enthusiasm
  • The candidate must be conscientious and used to dealing with confidential data
  • Highly organised with a keen eye for detail and strong numeracy skills
  • Must be flexible and adapt well to changing job requirements
  • Good interpersonal skills, particularly with non-financial management - will ask questions to clarify understanding of self and others
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex and technical financial information to non-financial colleagues
  • Excellent planning, organisational skills and be able to work to strict deadlines
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Be able to achieve greater collaboration between Finance and the Operational teams and develop and nurture relationships within the business
