Our client is an ultramodern, all-digital academic medical centre specialising in the provision of care for women and children. Based in Qatar, our client will focus on world-class patient care, medical education and biomedical research.

We are recruiting for a Orthoptist

Job Summary:

The Orthoptist works with patients of all ages from the paediatric population, using their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with strabismus, binocular vision and eye movement disorders, reduced vision and amblyopia, including children with ocular pathology with secondary amblyopia. The role may include ancillary testing, assisting the physician and head orthoptist, answering patient questions and phone calls, and answering questions about surgery and post-operative care.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Under general direction of the head orthoptist, makes a thorough assessment of the ocular and systemic health of each patient referred
  • Under general guidance of the head orthoptist, assesses the vision, ocular alignment, and conducts general ocular exam of the patient
  • Performs sensory and motor strabismus evaluations
  • Performs refraction and manages refractive medical disorders
  • Diagnoses and treats amblyopia independently
  • Places cycloplegic eye drops
  • Participates in preoperative strabismus evaluation
  • Works with the patient and family for pre and post-operative counseling
  • Participates in eye clinic tasks such as visual field and ancillary testing as needed
  • Aids the ophthalmologist and head orthoptist as necessary, and any other department employees
  • Answers patient questions and telephone calls and provides general family-centered counseling as appropriate
  • The orthoptist is expected to participate in general eye clinic care and upkeep as part of the team along with nursing staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Orthoptics or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience in the role of Orthoptist.
  • C.O. (Certified Orthoptics) or Registered/ Licensed Orthoptist from country of origin
  • Eligible for licensure in Qatar after onboarding.
  • Ability to communicate clear instructions to patient population
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict
  • Ability to problem solve
