They are currently recruiting for a Senior Night Sister to come and join them.

Job Summary:

To provide excellent management of the night clinical services, undertaking out of hours duty manager role.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership, with full responsibility of hospital wide clinical care during the night shift
  • Undertake Duty Manager role during night hours, taking responsibility for the overall management and administration of the hospital
  • Provide professional leadership as line manager to the Night Sister and the night nursing team, including appraisals, staff development and performance management
  • Undertake audits and quality improvement projects, providing assurance to the Clinical Nurse Manager of the quality of the night services
  • Evaluate and coordinate the staffing levels and skill mix across the hospital during night hours ensuring the best clinical care
  • Undertaking direct patient care as required
  • Contribute to effective management of resources ensuring good cost control
  • Be aware of and comply with the NMC Code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwifes and EC directives
  • Ensure Hospital Policies and Procedures are embedded into daily practice
  • Keep Clinical Nurse Manager aware of relevant changes which occur, including accidents and incidents and complaints
  • Update own personal and professional education and development at every opportunity
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with patients, relatives and Consultants within your sphere of care
  • Ensure safe practices are carried out at all times
  • Provide a suitable environment for the physical and psychological well being of patients and staff
  • Liaise with Resident Medical Officers and Consultants to ensure appropriate care is provided
  • Inform Clinical Nurse Manager when changes occur which may affect standards of care
  • Endeavour to maintain continuity of care to patients by effective allocation of staff, and effective use of resources in relation to the dependency of patients
  • Maintain professional confidentiality and ensure all clinical and legal documents are accurate and legible
  • Ensure the ordering, storage and administration of drugs is in accordance with the Hospital Drug Policies
  • Participate in designated groups/working parties within the Hospital as required
  • Ensure that risk assessments are in place and up to date i.e. clinical, Manual Handling, COSHH, DSE and Pregnant Workers
