This is achieved through tailored education programmes and support in areas of health including fitness assessment, nutrition, psychology, physiology and physical training.

We are recruiting for a Sport Dietitian.

Job Summary:

The Sport Dietician will promote optimal performance, health and injury prevention for Qatar's athletes using evidence-based nutrition and exercise, research, education and practice.

Key Role Accountabilities:

1. Operational Framework

  • To provide individual and group nutritional consultations and education to enhance the performance of competitive and recreational athletes in training, competition and when travelling.
  • To translate latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition for implementation by athletes, teams and groups.
  • To undertake education programmes and research to develop a level of international excellence within Sports Nutrition programme of NSMP, through an integrated sports science framework with a performance driven approach.

2. Individual Nutrition Counselling

  • Assess and analyse dietary intake, body composition and energy balance of athletes in relation to athletic performance and health.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for various phases of training, recovery and competition, weight management, hydration, maintenance of health, travelling and use of supplements.
  • Provide personalized meal, snack and hydration plans to support nutrition advice and promote achievement of performance goals and health.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy as required and advice for nutritional management of conditions such as food allergies, iron depletion and iron deficiency anaemia and gastrointestinal disturbances.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness, injury and surgery.
  • Coordinate with hospital dietician regarding needs of athletes when inpatients.
  • Coordinate nutritional care as part of multidisciplinary sports medicine/sciences.
  • Evaluate, advise on and monitor appropriate use of supplements.

3. Education

  • Develop and deliver nutrition education programmes on performance related topics including supplement use.
  • Coordinate with Lead Sports Nutritionist and assist with development and delivery of healthy eating and sports nutrition programmes
  • Advise/plan menus for training, snacks and team travel.
  • Advise and supervise provision of appropriate hydration products and practices.
  • Nutrition resource for coaches, trainers, caterers and families.
  • Assist with development and delivery of nutrition programmes to Federations and clubs within NSMP through an integrated sports science frame work, with a performance driven approach.

4. Research

  • Conduct and support studies to enhance evidence based sports nutrition practice in cooperation with the Sports Science, Sports Medicine and NSMP teams.
  • Ensure dissemination of outcomes of studies to appropriate interested parties.

5. Management

  • Planning and management of nutrition supplies such as sports drinks and specialist foods for allocated groups or teams.
  • Coordinate with Hospital Dietitian and Food Service regarding special requirements for athletes under care
  • Liaise with airlines, hotels and venue caterers regarding team/group meals including pre-competition and recovery snacks. Ensure Halal requirements are clearly understood by caterers.

6. Patient Safety

  • Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service and contracted providers.
