Our client works on many of Europe's exciting projects and as a result of growth are looking to expand their team.

They are currently recruiting a Town Planning Manager to join their team based in Birmingham.

Job Summary
As a Town Planning Manager, you will manage town planning activities as the client lead for planning consent applications. You will provide advice on a range of legislative development and planning policy related issues associated with the construction and operation of a new rail project.

The role reports to the Senior Town Planner for Area South. Working to and advising on national and regional town planning legislation where necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop the design, coordinate planning and support implementation of the rail project throughout Phase 1 Area South, including two stations and all associated infrastructure
  • Engage with local planning authorities on town planning matters associated with planning consent submissions, and hybrid act related processes
  • Assist in the programming, preparation, review and submission requests for approval, working with engineering and environment teams, consultants and contractors as required
  • Manage, engage with and advise contractor and teams on the preparation of planning material for consents packages. E.g. ground investigations, enabling works, main works, rail systems, or works outside of act limits, including advising on DCO/TWAO/TCPA processes and programme, and associated risk implications
  • Support with emerging business needs. E.g. assisting in design panel reviews, local technical engagement panels and local public engagement activities
  • Stakeholder engagement is a key critical success factor for this role, both internally (e.g. route engineers and environmental specialists) and externally (e.g. Local Planning Authorities, Planning Forums and associated subgroups).
  • Close working with internal functional and project teams as well as contractors

Skills and Requirements:

  • Town planning degree or equivalent, with membership of the RTPI, or other related professional membership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Present and manage consistent and coherent messages and information to a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Highly proficient IT skills including MS office
  • Able to prioritise multiple assignments and to deliver to agreed deadlines
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK planning processes, and evolving planning policy environment
  • Project or programme management processes and/or successfully managing a varied caseload of applications or projects
  • Experience in town planning, ideally gained through infrastructure planning, dealing with major applications or appeals under the Planning Acts, Transport and Works Act Orders, hybrid Bill, IPC or DCO in the public and/or private sector
  • Experience of managing others, including contractors, to deliver accurate and timely planning related documents
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, determined and resilient
  • Good attention to detail with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Flexibility to be able to apply knowledge and experience to a variety of town planning related tasks
