    The Benefits of Flexible Working

Each year, the flexible working landscape continues to change. As it stands, more than four million people work solely from home in the UK. But over the years as businesses have tried to adapt and improve the work and life balance of their employees, has there been a distinguished change? We look at the reasons why this option of working is popular, with only 6% of workers now working in a 9 to 5 role.

    Flexibility

This point probably highlights one of the biggest benefits of being able to work remotely. New parents can work flexibly around childcare, and those with a long way to travel can avoid the commute and make more time for work whilst in the comfort of their own home.

    Work from Anywhere

If you have Wi-Fi, you can work anywhere. This is a huge convenience to those that live busy lives who simply can’t squeeze everything into a normal working day. Whether it’s holding a conference call in a coffee shop or replying to emails on a train, this way of working is suitable for anyone, anywhere.

    No Commute

Another huge benefit. Those that work from home don’t waste any time sitting in the city traffic or waiting on a busy tube/train. Instead they use the time to get stuck into work or to get a quick morning run in. This helps mentally, and a positive start to the day is great for everyone.

    Productivity

Think about it. You get to wear clothes you feel comfortable in, sit in a way that makes you feel relaxed, and enjoy background music or catch up on a TV show between breaks, all in the comfort of your own home (or anywhere you’re working from, for that matter). To some, working from home equals the dream working environment, and it’s not surprising that homeworkers rank their productivity as 7.7/10, compared with 6.5/10 for office workers, according to a Canada Life survey.

    Employees will be more loyal

When you give your employees the ability to customise their schedule so that they can balance their professional life and their personal life, an interesting thing happens: they become grateful. In turn, their gratitude manifests itself in the form of loyalty towards the company. A loyal staff equals great productivity and decreased turnover, which, as any employer knows, is a great cost savings.

To summarise, flexible working is a way of working that suits an employee’s needs. As technology develops to enable access to corporate systems, services and applications from any location at any time, employees are questioning the need to be sat at a desk in a specific office at set times each day.
However, some businesses remain using the traditional method of working, as it works for their culture and values.

At Cavendish our technology team prides themselves on the fact they work with a range of clients across Europe who offer remote/flexible working as part of their package. To see the available vacancies we have open at the moment that are remote or flexible, please visit our Technology roles now.
