Digital inclusion: Making tech accessible to every community
Today, we have decided to debunk the idea that the engineering sector is a man’s world. Here are five facts about female engineers:
There is an “International Women in Engineering Day”, which was created in 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society. This year, it will be celebrated on June 23rd.
Alongside her job as a famous movie actress in the 1930’s Hollywood, Hedy Lamarr was also an engineer and inventor. She held a technology patent which has been used as the foundation for today’s advanced wireless networks.
Led by Atkins, a recent survey of 300 female engineers showed that 83% were either happy or extremely happy with their career choices.
In the last couple of years, there has been a 2% increase in the female engineering workforce. Women form 11% of the UK engineering landscape.
One in three engineers working on the London Crossrail, which is one of London’s most ambitious projects, is a woman.
