    Cavendish Professionals supporting Powerday Foundation

    Cavendish Professionals supporting Powerday Foundation

The Powerday Foundation is a community-based initiative that was founded in 2011, set up to improve the lives of young people in London, through the power of sport and opportunity. At Cavendish Professionals we recognise the importance of sport in the lives of young people and the impact it can have on those that are seeking a sense of community. We believe in supporting those who are making a real difference and Powerday’s five-year plan that was launched in 2021 aims to improve the lives of 10,000 young people. This initiative aligned seamlessly with our CSR strategy.

Over the past 10 years, this foundation has invested over £14.5 million into London clubs in hard-to-reach areas, improving the lives of 20,000 young people. This year, we have had the privilege of being part of and sponsoring some amazing events that were run by Powerday.

    Charity Boxing

In November and April, our construction team attended Powerday’s Foundation charity boxing events. These annual events showcase some of the best boxing talent from London and Dublin’s amateur clubs. All proceeds from these boxing events go towards championing Powerday’s initiatives, supporting those playing at amateur level and those striving to box professionally.

    Repton Boxing Club

As part of the Powerday Foundation’s support within the boxing arena, they extended their support to Repton Boxing Gym, which we had the pleasure of visiting. The gym has an extensive history initially known as Repton Boys Club established by Repton Public School dating back to 1884. The club was known as the place that young men could attend for support and encouragement in one of London’s poorest areas.

The Powerday Foundation has been in the lucky position of being able to financially support the now, Repton Boxing Club, including the recent refurbishment of their roof. There are plenty of stories where we have seen how boxing has been and was a lifeline for many known professional boxing athletes, such as Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. Despite being extremely beneficial for cardiovascular health, boxing is also known for reducing stress levels and promoting mental wellbeing through the release of specific endorphins.

    British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships

The British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships was the first of its kind in 2022. An event that Powerday Foundation was able to not only financially support but bring awareness to. These championships gives the opportunity for swimmers who have Down Syndrome the ability to compete officially in a sport they love. It is not widely known but Downs Syndrome suffers are not allowed to compete at the Paralympics due to the level of the disability therefore working with the British Downs Syndrome Association and Powerday, Cavendish professionals were able to sponsor and support in providing a platform that gives swimmers with Downs Syndrome the opportunity to take their sport to the next level. We continued our support in their second championship earlier this year and we hope that the swimmers will continue to flourish and one day be part of the Paralympic events.

    ‘HEY GIRLS’ Initiative

In 2022, Powerday partnered with the social enterprise ‘Hey Girl’ to provide free period products for all young girls attending their boxing clubs. In addition, Hey Girl also added boxing clubs to their donation list. This initiative highlighted the lack of accessibility of period products for some young people. To promote this new initiative some of our team joined the Powerday girls for an afternoon of boxing, to demonstrate that boxing is a sport for everyone.

We are delighted to be able to support the Powerday Foundation and we look forward to our future partnerships in 2024.
