CP Going Green

Cavendish Professionals is going green! The importance of going green and becoming more ‘eco-friendly’ has become an increasingly relevant issue in recent years, and it is no surprise that more and more companies are opting to go green to reduce their carbon footprint. By implementing more greener processes in our office, we aim to create a healthier environment for our employees and reduce the amount of unnecessary waste created.

Below are 3 first steps we’ve taken in going green.

Switching Off

The average business consumes 1,175,000 KWH a year. That is enough to power 65 average-sized homes for a whole year. In an effort to reduce the amount of energy we consume, we have begun making more of a conscious effort to turn off all lights at the end of each day and by keeping lights off in unused rooms. CP employees have also been begun to fully power down their computers and screens at the end of each day (which not only saves energy but can prolong the lifespan of the equipment).

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The average business consumes 3.6 tons of paper/year - The equivalent of a large garden full of trees. To combat this, CP employees have begun printing only when completely necessary.  If it is necessary to print, they are printing using both sides of the paper. Using technology such as email or scanners can radically reduce paper consumption, but also save time and money.

A typical office produces huge volumes of waste each year. For example, an office of 100 people produces 20 bags of waste a week. That is enough to fill one 1,100L waste bin a week or fifty 1,100L waste bins in a year. Shockingly over 90% of office waste produced can be recycled. In efforts to reduce the amount of waste produced by our office, all CP employees have been provided with desktop recycler baskets and are encouraged to be mindful when it comes to recycling.

Ditch the Plastic

A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and this number will jump another 20% by 2021. In an attempt to reduce plastic waste, CP has recently provided all employees with reusable water bottles and travel coffee cups. The effect of using reusable products not only benefit the environment but the employee also. Many coffee shops now offer discounts to customers who bring their own reusable cups, so employees can save money on their daily coffees.
