Our client is building a Kubernetes-native OpenStack Control Plane platform operating across a multi-cluster topology covering Management, Control Plane, Hypervisor and Storage. The platform is built around a family of Kubernetes operators, including Keystone and Glance, using shared reconciler patterns based on Operator SDK, controller-runtime and Kubebuilder. Orchestrated by the c5c3-operator and delivered through GitOps with FluxCD, the platform is designed to operate and scale modern OpenStack infrastructure.
They are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help build, operate and scale this operator-based platform, working closely with architects to improve end-to-end testing, documentation and the onboarding of new OpenStack operators.
Skills and Requirements:
- Experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps or site reliability engineering.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platform technologies.
- Practical experience building Kubernetes operators and controllers using technologies such as Operator SDK, controller-runtime and Kubebuilder.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts including CRDs, sub-reconciler patterns, webhooks and finalizers.
- Experience with Kubernetes-native testing frameworks such as envtest, Chainsaw E2E, Tempest and Chaos Mesh.
- Experience with GitOps concepts and tools, particularly FluxCD and Git-based delivery workflows.
- Good knowledge of at least one major cloud provider and its Kubernetes platform.
- Programming or scripting experience, preferably with Go.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions-based development workflows.
- Understanding of security-by-design, least-privilege principles, compliance requirements and secure software delivery.
- Ability to create clear technical documentation in Markdown or similar formats.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of OpenStack services and architecture.
- Experience with secrets management and secure credential rotation, such as OpenBao or External Secrets Operator.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects or reusable engineering frameworks.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Build cloud-native platform components – Develop, maintain and improve CobaltCore/C5C3 platform components and reusable Kubernetes operator automations.
- Operate Kubernetes operators – Run and maintain Kubernetes operators while implementing reliable, scalable GitOps delivery patterns using FluxCD.
- Improve the operator platform – Help evolve the shared reconciler architecture and improve the onboarding of new operators such as Keystone, Horizon and Glance.
- Work with architects – Write requirements and review translated technical designs, implementation tasks and technical documentation to ensure alignment with the platform architecture.
- Drive quality and compliance – Ensure platform components and delivery processes comply with security, operational, architecture and quality standards.
- Strengthen testing – Work with architects and engineering teams to improve end-to-end testing and apply appropriate Kubernetes-native testing approaches.
- Support operations – Troubleshoot platform issues, contribute to incident analysis and proactively identify opportunities for continuous platform improvement.
- Maintain technical knowledge – Create and maintain technical documentation, onboarding materials and implementation guidelines that enable teams to work effectively with the platform.
- Provide AI guidance – Support teams with practical guidance on the use of AI in the context of Kubernetes operator patterns, CRD design, FluxCD-based GitOps and OpenStack control-plane operations.
- Promote reusable engineering – Contribute to reusable frameworks and open-source projects where appropriate, helping establish consistent and scalable engineering practices.
