What is Movember all about?
Movember is a charity that focuses on men’s health and bringing health issues to the forefront of people’s minds and out in the open. It’s about talking about the biggest health issues where men die 5 years earlier than women. Movember is about opening up the discussion, the research and the treatment around Men’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Prostate Cancer and Testicular Cancer, making these topics become part of the male conversation, that doesn’t bring embarrassment or need to be hidden.
Prostate Cancer, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and Testicular Cancer are the 3 health issues that Movember shed’s light on.
Movember started in 2003 with 30 men deciding to grow a moustache for the month of November, to raise money for men’s health charities. This annual event has now grown to five million people supporting the cause. However, you do not need to grow a moustache to take part, there are so many other ways you can get involved.
How to get involved
Donate
Giving regularly to Movember Foundation is one way to help support the work they do on a global scale. Work that funds research and treatment. Support here
Make a Move
Another way can join in the fun if you are not growing a moustache is to take on the 60km challenge for the month of November. Run or walk 60km over the month. Find out more
Mo your own Way
Set up a crazy challenge for yourself or a group of friends. Cycle from Leeds to London. Go on a rowing machine for an hour non-stop every day, swim 60 lengths. Anything you can think of, go for it. See ideas on Movember.com
